Lollipie’s dream come true: to sit out in the porch in an early end-Spring morning, on a rocking chair, with the apo sitting on her lap to cuddle. Curlers, jammies, oily face, and all. If nature were not the rule and she could have had it her way, I’m sure mama would have chosen to have the apo first before us, the children.

See you in September (God willing), darling Leila, sip-on, pouty lips, long, curvy lashes, precocious little you!

We all need a little black dress.*** This is a creation by my sister Iana Rodriguez-Japson. Her other works can be seen at http://seninacreations.tumblr.com/ and http://www.facebook.com/seninacreations While my sister always had an eye for style, she was more of a laidback dresser, choosing to go to school (University of the Philippines-Cebu, BS in Business Management) in shorts and a shirt than go in a skirt. She only started having fun expressing her style post-college when she returned to Ormoc and shortly after, spent 6 months in Manila to study at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines. She’s now married, lives in Huntington Beach and is running Senina Creations with our other sister, Maica Rodriguez-Larrazabal. Get one now!

Street Art by Javier Garcia,at the street art exhibit just outside the Santa Barbara Mission church.
We were on a roadtrip to Santa Barbara and Solvang and decided to see the Mission churches along the way. We didn’t know there was going to be a street art exhibit at the Santa Barbara Mission, so imagine our surprise. It was delightful! This particular work caught our attention. We were gushing how cute it was when somebody behind us said, “Thanks!” We turned and a man introduced himself as the artist. I asked what his inspiration was and rather disappointingly (for me), he said, “I saw it on the internet.” Oh. But he was very pleasant; I actually have another photo of the painting with us together.

My sister Iana and me,Taking a rest on what we called the Great Slab Rock, which you’ll easily find if you get off the Skull Rock’s trail. We probably spent half an hour there, just taking in everything:the hot sunthe rough texture of the Great Slab Rock, which by the way is flat, and as wide as our bungalowand as high as 1.5 to 2 stories, the cool breeze, the silence of that amazing natural expanse. And that mammoth behind us, is just one of the thousands of rock formations in the great Joshua Tree National Park,a National Park that’s a good 2-hour drive away from, say, Huntington Beach. It doesn’t run out of awesome.
